Description

The IT Data Technician Instructor provides instruction across progressive levels of data technician training, from foundational computer and hardware concepts to advanced operating systems, networking, and leadership skills. This position delivers hands-on, workforce-aligned instruction that prepares students to safely diagnose, troubleshoot, and maintain computer systems, hardware, and networks while developing technical problem-solving and professional leadership skills.

Job Duties

  • Deliver classroom, lab, and/or hybrid instruction across DT 1, DT 2, and DT 3 competency levels.
  • Teach DT 1 foundational skills, including:
    1. Basic computer knowledge and safe work practices
    2. Identification of hardware components
    3. Minor machine troubleshooting
    4. Diagnosing and resolving basic hardware and performance issues
  • Teach DT 2 intermediate skills, including:
    1. Component testing and hardware upgrades
    2. Understanding and analyzing hardware performance issues
    3. Systematic troubleshooting methods for hardware and software failures
    4. Introduction to fiber, optics, and light-level testing
    5. Basic networking concepts and practices
  • Teach DT 3 advanced skills, including:
    1. Installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Linux operating systems
    2. Advanced hardware and system troubleshooting
    3. More complex hardware and networking configurations
    4. Instruction in leadership skills (minimum of 8 hours)
  • Develop and maintain curriculum, lesson plans, labs, and assessments aligned with industry standards
  • Emphasize safe practices, proper tool usage, and ethical handling of technology
  • Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate instructional and compliance records
  • Support student retention, completion, and workforce readiness
  • Collaborate with program leadership, IT staff, and industry partners to ensure curriculum relevance
  • Participate in program review, accreditation, grant reporting, and continuous improvement activities
  • Demonstrates IWCCâ??s core mission, vision and values
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelorâ??s degree in Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field
  • Relevant industry and/or instructional experience; level of experience may determine compensation or teaching scope
  • Teaching experience in higher education, workforce training, or adult education preferred
  • Strong research and project management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to articulate in both small and large group settings and with diverse groups of people including co-workers, students, business contacts and at various levels from front-line to administration
  • Strong computational ability to include mathematic calculations and analyzing statistical data
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to multi-task, to meet deadlines, to maintain and access paper and electronic files, to produce error-free final products, and to manage time and output
  • Excellent customer service skills required 
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Enthusiastic and dedicated to the challenges of helping other people
  • Professional in communications, appearance, relationships, and responsiveness
  • Positive attitude
  • Self-starter with the ability to perform with little or no direct supervision
  • Regular, prompt & reliable attendance

  • The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone and basic office equipment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear
