Manager of Licensing & Commission

We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Manager of Licensing & Commissions to lead our team in overseeing all aspects of commission processing and payroll integration. This role is critical to ensuring compliance, operational excellence, and seamless coordination across product lines and distribution channels. The ideal candidate will bring proven leadership skills, strong technical and regulatory knowledge, and the ability to motivate a team toward achieving departmental and corporate objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop staff to exceed performance standards.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, respect, and proactive communication.
  • Partner with Human Resources on personnel management, coaching, and performance evaluations.

Commissions Structure & Distribution

  • Oversee the processing of all commission transactions for multiple product lines and distribution channels.
  • Ensure commissions are calculated in accordance with established compensation schedules, incentive programs, overrides, and bonus structures.
  • Manage escalations related to commission disputes or discrepancies; provide clear resolutions and guidance.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Distribution, and Finance teams to design and implement commission structures that align with business objectives while maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Develop reporting and analytics to monitor payout accuracy, trends, and agent productivity.

Payroll & Accounting Integration

  • Coordinate with the Payroll Administrator and Accounting Department to ensure commissions are accurately and timely reflected in payroll runs.
  • Oversee the reconciliation process between commission systems and payroll systems.
  • Maintain audit-ready records and support internal and external audits related to commissions and payroll.
  • Continuously evaluate payroll processes and recommend enhancements to streamline operations.

 Systems & Compliance

  • Represent the Licensing & Commissions (L&C) division in defining business requirements, testing, and implementing system changes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute departmental projects aligned with corporate strategies.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on division budgets and key performance indicators.
  • Drive process improvements and contribute to the long-term scalability of commission.
  • Understanding agent agreements from a commission perspective.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelorâ??s degree in Business, Finance, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in commissions administration, compensation management, or payroll operations. 
  • 4 years of supervisory experience in leading teams, developing staff, and driving performance improvements.
  • Strong understanding of commission structures (e.g., base, variable, overrides, bonuses) and their impact on sales distribution channels.
  • Proven ability to navigate Excel to and manage budgets, projects, and cross-departmental initiatives effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong background in insurance industry operations, familiar with brokerage distributions and with direct exposure to compliance oversight from a commission perspective
  • Proven ability to utilize Tableau or other reporting tools and dashboards that support project execution and cross-departmental decision-making.
